Break Free from Anxiety
Always overthinking everything...
Constantly feeling scared and nervous...
Worrying. Second-guessing yourself…
Panic creeping up on you all of a sudden...
Are anxiety and fear major problems in your life?
If you had one wish, would you want to be free from anxiety, fear, worry and panic so you could feel better, enjoy your life for once, be more relaxed, and experience more peace and contentment?
If so, you're in the right place!
You are not alone
Difficulty with anxiety is one of the most common difficulties that human beings face today.
Anxiety can be found in all ethnic groups, countries, and cultures. It affects up to 25 percent of the general population at some point in their lifetime.
Someone close to is probably suffering from anxiety right now, and you didn’t even know it.
Hoping that anxiety will go away doesn’t really work
Unfortunately, most anxiety issues are not a DIY project and do not tend to go away by themselves if left untreated.
Because the things we do on our own to make anxiety go away will often work for a few minutes, or even an afternoon, but then the anxiety is back and it just gets stronger and worse over time.
Research illuminates why this is the case, but it boils down to: the solutions that work on the outside of our body, like turning off a faucet to stop the water from running, do not work on the inside of our body.
Trying to avoid, control and shut off the stuff that comes up inside of us (like worry, anxiety, fear, what-ifs, and uncomfortable body sensations) is a loosing battle. It's like trying to dig out of a deep hole with a tiny shovel. You feel like you’ve made some progress, and then more dirt falls on you leaving you worse off than when you started.
Maybe you already know this truth at some level; but if you admitted it to yourself, the hopelessness of living with a life filled with anxiety would simply be too much to bear.
Do not despair
I can help you achieve freedom from your anxiety.
I know this sounds like a big unlikely marketing tactic, but it’s not - and it’s also probably not what you think.
In our work together, you will notice that we will not focus much on reducing your experience of anxiety or getting rid of your fears.
We also won't spend energy on trying to change your life so that you can avoid or escape anxiety-inducing situations.
What we will do is focus on ways for you to live that bring you more genuine happiness and peace.
Once you’re out of your head and back into your life, you might not actually care that you feel shaky, worried, or even panicky once in a while. You'll understand what's going on and you'll be able to tolerate it and live the life you choose anyway.
A new way out of your worries, anxieties, and fears
Our work together will likely be unlike anything you’ve tried before.
This is good news, because as someone wise once said, “ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
We will not be learning more, better, or different anxiety management and control strategies. Instead, we will be doing work that will likely challenge you in new ways.
Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), we will work to change your relationship with yourself and with your own history.
We will revisit your hostile and unkind relationship with your anxiety – and instead learn to bring acceptance, kindness, and compassion to your anxious thoughts and feelings.
The Four Steps to Freedom
The main steps to freedom are:
- Accept what you have and cannot change
- Choose valued life directions
- Take action
- Wash, rinse, repeat
Instead of trying to avoid it, we will get at the root of the problem and refocus your energies on creating, step by step, the kind of life you want to live until you have gained freedom from the influence of anxiety and are thriving in your life.
And I will be with you every step of the way to provide safety, compassion, strategies, skills, support, encouragement, strength, and motivation. You can do it!
Yes, it sounds Woo Woo, but it’s not
The strategies and approaches you will learn are founded on a significant and growing base of research. The evidence clearly demonstrates that when we expend energy trying to manage or control anxiety, we end up actually feeding our fear, making our lives smaller, and increasing the suffering that we know all too well.
This research, and my personal and professional experience, also shows that when we learn to accept and bring kindness and compassion to our anxious thoughts, feelings, and experiences, we can effectively free ourselves from their grip and get on with the business of living a full and vibrant life.
